Take a break from the chaos of everyday life and come reconnect with nature in the beautiful setting of the Male Karpaty on an educational guided hike. You will learn both about edible and medicinal plants as well as the story of the area as told through geology.
We will hike up the Hlboce valley where the only waterfall of the Malé Karpaty is situated. Travel back in time more than 100 million years ago when the limestone of this valley was formed and the conditions were favourable to different organisms than those living in the valley today. After we will follow the Molpir ridge with fantastic views, and come down through fairytale meadows while looking down on Smolenice castle. During the hike we will learn about wild plants, the ultimate in local and sustainable food. Many of them are considered weeds and unwanted, but are actually a source of tasty nourishment!
Topics will cover:
– where to safely forage
– sustainable foraging
– identification of plants seen along the walk as well as how to use them
Food and drink made with wild plants will be available afterwards for purchase.
Naomi Huzovicova is an outdoor enthusiast originally from Canada. Growing up on a farm, picking wild food was just part of life as a child. Although she has had to learn different plants in different terrain since coming to Slovakia, her enthusiasm for things natural is the same anywhere in the world.
If you find some garbage during the walk, feel free to pick it up and hand it over to the organizers who will have garbage backs with themselves.
